The Indian Act
In, Canada 1867, the Indian Act moved all aboriginal people to reserves, where they could not leave without permission, and went to jail for trying to leave without permission. The reserves were isolated, away from society. Children in reserves were sent to school, mainly to be converted, and not much of education. The children did chores for half of the day, and the other half for classes. People were afraid to talk about what happened in their childhoods for a long time, but they eventually spoke up.
Recently, prime minster Stephen Harper apologized in Public about the Indian Act.
